North Kent Embroiderers Guild

97 Stitching Group

In 1997 members of the North Kent Embroiderers Guild decided it was high time they formed a stitching together group and in May that year several members met and formed what is now the 97 Stitching Group. We stitch together on the third Saturday of the month and coordinate projects and exhibitions.

We have learnt new embroidery stitches and techniques and therefore it is a teaching forum but like anything, it changes. Recently we have learnt Applique and made a Christmas wall hanging. As from January 2016, we will be working on the Capability Brown Project which is something the Embrodierers' Guild nationwide are involved in. If members do not wish to particpate in the class, then they bring along their own embroidery, and I can assure there is fun, plenty of chatter, laughter and friendliness!!

Stitching together is fun!

This was the project we did for Christmas 2014 - Father Christmas - and whilst working it, members learnt numerous stitches such as Fly stitch, French knots and back stitch. When assembling it, they learnt a bit about quilting as the border is Log Cabin pattern.
This is a piece of Shadow work that some members learnt from January until Easter. Others were learning Harndanger and although they have finished their pieces, we will have a 'class' in August to learn how to mount them.
